The country’s limited record shops, mostly in Cairo, cater primarily to psychedelic rock and electronic genres, leaving pop music fans struggling to build their collections. That changed when Elita Records emerged. Founded by Adham Fawzy and inspired by the renowned American record shop Spin Me Round, the store was created to make collecting international records more accessible in Egypt. “The main concept behind Elita Records is to provide music lovers with different physical formats at reasonable prices,” Adham tells SceneNoise. “Many Middle Eastern artists no longer produce physical copies of their releases, and I hope to revive that culture.”

What started as a niche collection reflecting Adham’s personal tastes has grown into a full-fledged store catering to a variety of genres, including pop, alternative, rock, and hip-hop. “Despite their higher cost, contemporary international releases are what appeal most to Gen Z,” he explains. However, Elita Records still sources older records for those interested in vintage classics.
